48Hours '07 - the aftermath

Firstly, I would like to point out that the majority of the buttons on the left still don't work. And thanks to my recent computer crash, it's likely to stay that way for a while yet. Bear with me.

Right then.
48Hours.

Pretty successful year, I'd say. None of the major flaws of previous years (especially 2004. *gulp*), and now we just have some polishing to do around the edges.
Guys, you all did a fantastic job.
For people who only get the chance to make little movie projects with me a few times a year, you all stepped up to the plate and delievered an extraordinary effort.
Instead of retyping my thank-you rant off my Bebo, I'm just going to copy/paste. Forgive me.

This was our 3rd year in the contest, and for the first time, we made a film we were actually fairly happy with. Around 35 people, operating like a well-oiled machine. Even those that hadn’t had any prior experience whatsoever – for example Hamish Fyfe volunteered to being our lighting director, despite having no prior experience, and after a 5 minute crash course on Wednesday and some tests on Friday, he nailed every demanding lighting setup we heaped on him. Blew me away. Then there was Caitlin, who turned up on the Saturday morning and picked up the role of Sophia with ease. Jarrod, who did 51 takes of the end voiceover. Matt, who wrote poems till 4am. Seb, who didn’t sleep at all and edited our rough cut. Harim, who stayed at home and logged every single tape. Reagon, whose work of art that is seen only for a few seconds took 6 hours of work. Rachel and Steph, who never complained about having to carry gear to and from the cars again and again. Zarni and Peter, who held the mics and (almost) never let them fall into frame. Tim, who lent us his expensive beast of a server, and was willing to be woken at any time to fix any troublesome computer issue. Sam, Jayden and Chris, who weren’t at all bitter about their scripts not being chosen. Alex, who has stuck with us every year, even after the screwups of previous years. Eddie, without how the music would have been a whole lot worse. Praveen and Rajiv, who stuck around the whole time only for an extra part. Adam and Daryl, who rigged and coiled cables all day long without complaint. The parents, that made us food, drove us around, let us take over the basement for an entire weekend, and even acted. And Johnathan, without whom we never would have had all these fantastic people to work with.

Damn, it would suck if I left someone of that list.

Well, the Auckland finals were announced today.
We're not in.
Awww.
But the progress we've made over the last 3 years has been staggering, and I'm confident that if we can keep it up, we can give them a movie to remember next year.
That is, if you all want to work with us again.

Ponder that awhile.
Cheerio,
Nick
